Last update: 02/06/2014

KANGAR, June 2 (Bernama) -- World Wushu championships and SEA Games gold medallist Phoon Eyin from Negeri Sembilan was in a class of her own to win the women's Jianshu gold medal after securing the highest points from the judges.

The 18-year-old from Seremban scored 9.63 points to beat another National exponent, Aggie Cheah Ruey Shin from Penang who managed 9.50 points while Melaka's Tammy Tan Hui Ling finished third with 9.33 points.

"Contrary to the winning margin, competition was stiff today because all the exponents put up good performances," said the National elite exponent who won a gold medal in the World Wushu Championships and the Myanmar SEA Games, last year.

"My target is to perform in the Incheon Asian Games in South Korea in September. I hope to be selected for the Asian Games but it will not be an easy passage because competition there is going to be very stiff," she said.

Phoon Eyin said she has yet to be informed which tournaments would be used as the benchmark to qualify for the Asian Games.....
