Chan Jie Splashes His Way To Games Record In 50m Butterfly

KANGAR, May 31 (Bernama) -- Selangor's Chan Jie splashed his way to a new meet record in the 50m butterfly at the 17th Malaysia Games (Sukma) here Saturday.

Chan Yie, 19, and his elder brother, Chan Yang, 20, won the gold and silver after clocking 25.13 seconds and 25.22s respectively at the Aquatics Centre, State Sports Complex here.

More interesting, the bronze medal winner Alwyn Tan Yean Yang (Penang) who clocked 25.34s also bettered the old record of 25.76s set by Selangor's Foo Jian Peng at the Terengganu Sukma.

In the heats earlier, Chan Yie had also broken the old record when he clocked 25.36s.

"I had expected to break the Sukma record in this event. After doing it in the heats, I targetted myself to do the same in the final," he told reporters afterwards.....
