14-Year-old Athlete Breaks Sukma Hammer Throw Record

KANGAR, May 31 (Bernama) -- It appears the 17th Malaysia Games (Sukma) has unearthed a young talent in Grace Wong, 14, who rewrote the Games record for hammer throw at the Tuanku Syed Putra Stadium here Saturday.

Grace from Sarawak recorded a throw of 55.82 metres surpassing the previous record of 50.69 metres set by Tan Song Hwa at the Terengganu Sukma in 2008.

Hailing from Sarikei, Sarawak, Grace shocked Myanmar SEA Games silver medalist, Casier Renee Lee who collected the silver medal with a throw of 54.36m.

The bronze medal went to Nurfazira Jalaludin of Selangor who recorded 48.59m.

Grace who is of Papua New Guinea and Chinese parentage said she did not expect to win the gold and erase the Games record in her second Sukma appearance.....
