Swimming: Shaun Yap, Sarawak Team Break SUKMA Records

KANGAR, May 30 (Bernama) -- National swimmer Shaun Yap Kah Choon clocked 29.43 seconds in the men's 50m breaststroke to set a new championship record at the 17th Malaysia Games (SUKMA) at the State Swimming Complex, here Friday.

Yap, representing Selangor, erased the previous record of 30.35 seconds also set by him two years ago at the Games in Pahang.

"I am happy to be able to defend the gold medal in the event and create a new games record along the way.

"My best time for the event is the national record at 28.69 seconds and I hope to improve it one day," he told reporters after the medal presentation ceremony.

Commenting on the competition from another national swimmer Wong Fu Kang of Johor who collected the silver medal in the event, Yap said the race was close.....
