KANGAR, May 29 (Bernama) -- It was a golden debut in the Malaysia Games (Sukma) for Sarawak's Queenie Ting as she picked up the gold in the women's discus throw in the 17th edition of the Games (Perlis Sukma) at the Stadium Tuanku Syed Putra here today.

The 17-year-old recorded a distance of 42.47 metres to defeat closest challenger Connie Choo of Johor who managed 37.83m. Anny Tang Siew of Perlis took the bronze with a distance of 34.41m.

Queenie, who hails from Sarikei, said her success was due to her hard work and mentoring by her coach Ling Neng Thung the last four years.

"I did not really expect to win the gold, for me the competition today was quite normal. Nevertheless, I am very happy because this is my best achievement this year," she told reporters after her victory.

Meanwhile, in the men's triple jump final, El Said Abdel Aziz from Sabah won the gold after jumping a distance of 15.43m. Kelantan's Nik Lukmanul Hakim came in second with 15.26m while Mohd Afiq Akmal took the bronze (14.87m).....
