ARAU, May 29 (Bernama) -- Archer Mohamad Khairul Azam Hashim brought honour to the Kelantan contingent when he delivered the state's first gold medal, and also broke the games' record in an archery event at the 17th Malaysia Games (Sukma) on Thursday.
In the final at the Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Polytechnic, he scored 329 points in the men's compound 90 metres - improving the 2010 Sukma record set in Melaka - by eight points.
The silver medal went to Muhamad Zulqarnain Mohd Zaid of Johor with 322 points while Ahmad Aliff Fadhulullah Alwi of Terengganu took the bronze with 320 points.
Mohamad Khairul Azam, 21, from Tanah Merah, Kelantan said he was also targeting to clinch the gold medal in the compound 70m and 30m events in the championships.
"I hope to achieve my personal targets and help the contingent in its gold medal collection. I did not face any pressure and only needed to focus," he told reporters here.....
