Sarawak Athlete Breaks Hammer Throw Record

KANGAR, May 29 (Bernama) -- National back-up athlete Michael Sia won the gold medal in hammer throw and broke the Malaysia Games (Sukma) record at Tuanku Syed Putra Stadium here.

The Sarawak athlete managed a throw of 56.98m to shatter the record made by national athlete Jackie Wong at Pahang Sukma 2012.

Jackson Wong, also of Sarawak, won the silver medal with a throw of 50.05m while the bronze medal went to Rizhan Rajmi of Perlis with a throw of 46.55m.

"I dedicate this win to all Sarawak athletes. I am happy to break the record held by Jackie who helped me a lot during training.

"The throw is my personal best this year. I need to be more consistent and work hard to be more competitive," he told reporters.....
