KANGAR, May 28 (Bernama) -- Patience and commitment paid off for Ahmad Fahmi Farhan Fuat in the 17th SUKMA hosted by Perlis when he won the 40.1km highway cycling individual time trial, here Wednesday.

Ahmad Farhan covered the Changlun-Kuala Perlis Highway route with a time of 55:15.699s to take the gold and end the 21-year-old's barren run in two previous SUKMA editions, namely in Melaka (2010) and Pahang (2012).

The silver medal went to Mohamad Nur Aiman Mohd Zariff of Terengganu who clocked 55:51.608s while Johor rider Muhammad Mustazlee Ishak took the bronze after clocking 56:06.142s.

"I really did not expect to win the gold medal. Racing in sweltering heat with a strong wind was rather difficult but I tried to do my best. The headwind when heading for the finish line was quite tiring and about 200 metres before reaching the wind speed picked up.

"I will try to win medals in the team event and also mass start after this," said the athlete who is from Pekan, Pahang.....
