KUALA TERENGGANU, May 26 (Bernama) -- The Special Olympics Malaysia (SOM) which started in Terengganu on Saturday featuring 1,041 athletes with intellectual disabilities is the best platform to promote meaningful activities for them said Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim.
"Such competitions will not only help produce more quality individuals among athletes with intellectual disabilities but can also help promote unity and produce a healthy generation," said Rohani when officially opening the SOM at Stadium Negeri, Sunday night.
Also present was Special Olympics Malaysia president Datuk Muhammad Feisol Hassan.
The four-day even that features six sports, among them bowling, swimming and Bocce would provide an opportunity for athletes to showcase their potential and stand a chance to be selected for higher level competitions.
"Malaysia proved its capability at the World Special Olympics Summer Games in Athens, Greece (2011) by winning 21 medals, comprising six gold, six silver and 12 bronze," she said.....
