Akmal Ride Out Pain For BMX Gold

KANGAR, May 25 (Bernama) -- Melaka-born Sabah cyclist, Akmal Abdullah had to endure the pain of a foot tendon injury in winning the gold medal in the BMX 400m final at the 17th Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Perlis to triumph.

The 18-year-old rider picked up the injury on the right foot after winning the qualifying round.

"I felt the pain when landing in the qualifying round and it got worse after the semi-final.

"Nevertheless, I am pleased to win the gold medal. I want to thank all my coaches and team official in giving me the confidence to continue in the competition," said the rider ranked 96 in the world junior ranking for BMX.

In 400m BMX event at Sungai Batu Pahat, here, Akmal pipped Ahmad Syazrin Awang Ilah of Terengganu at the finishing line in 52.287 seconds.....
