Malaysia Games Medal Hunt Begins

KANGAR, May 24 (Bernama) -- After two days of several events starting in the 17th Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Perlis, the hunt for medals began today by the 14 competing contingents.

Although the official opening of the Games is only on Monday, 13 gold medals were on offer today, in karate and canoeing.

Penang's karate exponent Thomson Hoe was the first gold medal winner in this edition of the Games. He won it in the Men's Individual Kata.

The victory was all the more sweet for him as it was also his first gold medal in the Sukma, having won only a bronze when making his Sukma debut in Pahang two years ago.

Penang dominated the karate events today, winning three gold, one silver and two bronze followed by Perak who won two gold and a bronze.....
