KANGAR, May 23 (Bernama) -- The Aquatics Centre and Badminton Hall at the State Sports Complex here which is the main venue for the 17th Malaysia Games (Sukma) will be ready before the pool and badminton events start.
Badminton kicks off on Tuesday while swimming and diving on Wednesday.
National Sports Council (NSC) director-general Datuk Seri Zolkples Embong said the final touches to the Aquatics Centre were expected to be fully completed before Monday. "The swimming pool will be completed today and it will take 26 hours to fill it with water...tomorrow tests will be carried out to ensure it's all systems go," he told reporters after visiting the centre and receiving a briefing from the contractor concerned on Friday.
Checks by the media found work running at a feverish pace with the roof only 50 per cent completed.
On the matter of the swimming facility, Amateur Swimming Union of Malaysia (ASUM) advisor Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, said ASUM's technical committee would be evaluating it this Sunday to ensure it complies with requirements.....
