KUALA TERENGGANU, May 20 (Bernama) -- Terengganu is confident of regaining the championship of the 2014 Malaysia Games (Sukma) by winning 53 gold, 45 silver and 51 bronze medals in Perlis from May 24.
Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said 392 athletes were prepared to compete in 24 types of sports involving 389 events contested in the 12-day festival.
"Terengganu wants to regain the championship by winning 53 gold medals which represents 13.62 percent of the 389 gold medals offered. I hope the athletes will strive to reach the target," he said after a ceremony to hand over the Sukma contingent flag here, Monday night.
State Deputy Youth, Sports and Human Resource committee chairman Mohd Mahdi Musa was picked as Terengganu Sukma Chef De Mission this year.
Ahmad Razif also said the state government had agreed to raise the incentive for winning a gold medal to RM6,000 from RM5,000, silver, RM5,000 from RM4,000, and bronze, maintained at RM2,000, if the contingent won the championship.....
