Application To Reinstate Status Of USM Doping Centre By Year End - Khairy

Last update: 18/05/2014

GEORGE TOWN, May 18 (Bernama) -- The youth and sports ministry will apply to reinstate the status of the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Doping Control Centre (DCC) as international anti-doping laboratory by year-end.

Its minister, Khairy Jamaluddin said the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) had pledged to give priority to Malaysia to restore its accreditation.

He said the ministry was still in the process of presenting a final allocation on the actual need to obtain the accreditation, in line with conditions stipulated by Wada.

"With the accreditation, we can conduct drug tests at USM, without having to send samples to other countries. This is important when we host the 2017 SEA Games.

"I have informed USM and the USM Doping Control Centre that our efforts to regain the accreditation from Wada should begin this year, so that we could obtain accreditation in 2016," he told reporters after visiting the centre here Sunday.....
