KANGAR, May 14 (Bernama) -- A retired teacher proved aged was not a hindrance to participate in endurance sports when he succeeded in completing three events of an Ironman challenge demonstration to promote the 17th SUKMA in Perlis.

Azizan Ali, 67, ran four times round Kangar over a distance of 17 kilometres from 6am to about 7.45am in the SUKMA Ironman programme route.

He later cycled the same route for another four rounds in 25 minutes, followed by swimming at the Putra Palace Hotel swimming pool for 17 laps in seven minutes.

"I am happy to promote the SUKMA Ironman event to encourage Perlis residents to be active in sports and self-discipline to protect one's health," said the grandfather of five after finishing the events.

Azizan made a name for himself as an endurance sportsman in Perlis after he swam 51km in 15 hours from Pulau Langkawi to Kuala Perlis in conjunction with the 51st National Day celebrations in 2008.....
