MELAKA, May 12 (Bernama) -- Melaka has warned its athletes to behave at the 17th Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Perlis from May 24 to June 4 or face stern action.
State Sukma contingent leader Datuk Ab Rahaman Ab Karim said any athlete who violated regulations, such as by taking drugs, consuming alcoholic drinks or gambling, would be sent back immediately and face action.
"We have instructed all managers and team captains to strictly monitor athletes under their charge. We must promote and not tarnish Melaka's name at the games," he told Bernama.
Ab Rahaman, who is chairman of the state health and sports development committee, said the selected athletes had been trained to be mentally and physically strong to face competition at the games.
He said Melaka was sending 293 athletes to participate in 21 of the 23 events at the games, and had set a target of 25 gold medals.....
