KANGAR, May 6 (Bernama) -- Bringing in foreign players to represent the country at international competitions is not the answer to success in football said Kelantan (KAFA) adviser Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

He said there was no provision in the policies of the Immigration Department of Malaysia or FIFA, the world governing body for football, to allow import players to represent their adopted country.

"The policies forbid any player with double citizenship to represent a particular country. According to FIFA's rules, a player from his original country cannot represent another country," said Annuar when commenting on a proposal to engage the services of import players to strengthen the national squad.

Annuar who is also a member of the National Football Development Programme (NFDP) panel said this after opening the Kayang Arcade owned by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara), here Monday night.

A player who decides to become a permanent resident (PR) of another country or a player given citizenship by another country, has to go through a cooling period of five years before he or she can represent the adopted country.....
