KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 (Bernama) -- National elite cyclist Mohd Nur Rizuan pulled off a pleasant surprise by winning Stage 5 in the Tour of Vietnam 2014 (ToV 2014) from Tuan Giao TP to Dien Bien, a distance of 90km, today.
The rider from Dungun, Terengganu surprised the leading pack that included 14 riders from the home team, by breaking away with nine kilometres remaining to finish with a time of 3 hours 15 minutes and 10 seconds.
Rizuan attributed the win to the strategy by team skipper Suhardi Hassan.
"Suhardi instructed all riders in the team to stay with the leading pack and asked me to launch an attack with nine kilometres remaining. After launching the attack I returned to the leading pack which included Suhardi.
"But while approaching the final one kilometre, I decided to break away on y own, knowing pretty well that I may run out of steam towards the end," he was quoted in a statement issued by the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF), today.....
