KUANTAN, May 4 (Bernama) -- South Korea emerges as champion for the first time after beating Canada 4-0 in the finals of the Champions Challenge 1 Hockey Championship at the Indera Mahkota Stadium here, tonight.
The runner up in the 2012 edition opened the scoring as early as in the 10th minute when Jang Jong Hyun delivered from a penalty corner strike to beat Canadian goalkeeper David Carter.
The Canadian defenders, appearing to be winded after the team's dramatic win over Malaysia yesterday, failed to check the onslaught from South Korea.
South Korea, which clearly controlled the game, then doubled its score through Kim Young Jin in the 19th minute.
In the second half, Canada which was behind 0-2, failed to optimise on several opportunities to score goals when several penalty corner strikes by team captain Scott Tupper failed.....
