LANGKAWI, May 3 (Bernama)-- Efforts to promote Muay Thai need to be stepped up to make it a core sport in the country, said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
He said the Muay Thai Association of Malaysia (PMM) needed to take the initiative to popularise the sport.
"We (ministry) are willing to chip in to realise the objective (of turning the sport into a core sport in the country)," he told a press conference after closing a youth and sports forum held in conjunction with the International International Federation of Muay Thai Association's (IFMA) 2014 championship at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre(MIEC) here Saturday.
A total of 1,200 participants from 120 countries took part in the 10-day tournament. They competed in 148 categories.
Meanwhile, Khairy said the ministry would also make Langkawi a sports tourism destination to attract more visitors to the already popular island.....
