Jirawat Sornwichian put the two-time runners-up team ahead in the 11th minute before Mohd Asmie Amir Zahari equalised through a counter attack, a few seconds, later.

Jirawat however, restored Thailand's lead when he slotted the second goal, a minute later.

The Thais under tutelage of Dutchman, Victor Hermans came out strongly in the second half and added five more goals through a hat-trick from Suphawut Thueanklang in the 26th, 28th and 36th minutes, Wiwat (31st minute) and an own goal by substitute Zubaidi Alwee in the 39th minute summed up Malaysia's inept performance.
