KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Yachting Association (MYA) will introduce a new selection process for the 2014 Monsoon Cup through Liga Layar Malaysia (LLM) to be held in Lumut, Perak from Friday and Saturday.
Its President Datuk Kamaruzzaman Abu Kassim said unlike previous years, the country's representatives for the Monsoon Cup will be chosen from among the sailors who participate in the 2014 LLM as part of the 'Malaysia Select Team'.
"We are optimistic that the new selection process will bring a host of benefits, not only to lift the standard of sailing in Malaysia, but also to identify and develop talent among the individual sailors who participate in the LLM, especially those who have consistently performed well throughout the circuit," he said in a statement issued today.
Kamaruzzaman noted that the sailors need not necessarily be from the team who are crowned as LLM champion, adding that the winning team in the LLM will still hold the championship title and be entitled to the prize money.
"It is hoped that the new selection format will further motivate each sailor to give their best during the LLM and the chosen ones will keep the Malaysian flag flying during the prestigious Monsoon Cup race, which is the last leg for the Alpari World Match Racing Tour," Kamaruzzaman added.....
