Sarawak SUKMA Contingent To Celebrate Gawai Festival Away From Home But In The Same Spirit

KUCHING, April 21 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak contingent participating in the SUKMA that is to be hosted by Perlis will not miss their Gawai Festival celebrations although they will be away from home.

The Gawai Festival will be celebrated on June 1 every year but this year's celebrations will clash with the SUKMA, at least for the Sarawak contingent as the SUKMA takes place from May 25 to June 4.

The Sarawak state government has however, decided to hold a Gawai Festival celebration for the athletes in Perlis.

Sarawak's Social Development Minister Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom said since the Gawai Festival is a special celebration for Sarawakians, athletes and officials would not be left out of the celebration.

"We will have a special celebration in Perlis for the Sarawak contingent on June 1. We will also invite other contingents to join in the celebration," he told reporters after accompanying Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem to accept a traditional invitation from the SUKMA Secretariat that was headed by Perlis Menteri Besar, Azlan Man at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, today.....
