OCM Plans To Send 270 Athletes And Officers To Glasgow Commonwealth Games In Scotland

Last update: 16/04/2014

KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 (Bernama) -- The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) plans to send 270 athletes and officers to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in Scotland this year, similar to the contingent strength in 2010.

OCM president, Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja'afar, however, said the number might change after receiving confirmation on the athletes from the national sports associations by mid-June.

"We had analysed the initial list of athletes during the committee selection meeting with the national sports associations in March.

"However, several sports associations have yet to submit their lists of athletes as they need more time to look at the representatives that will be sent by other countries before confirming their participation," he told reporters after the OCM meeting, here, today.

The Glasgow Commonwealth Games will be held from July 23 to Aug 3. Asked on the targeted number of medals, Tunku Imran said it was still too early to say but the OCM was working with the National Sports Council to assess the athletes and the type of sports which had the potential to win medals at the prestigious meet.....
