KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 (Bernama) -- Seventh seed Donna Vekic of Croatia was forced to work hard for a win against her lower ranked opponent Chan Yung-Jan from Taiwan in a first round match of the 2014 BMW Malaysian Open, here Tuesday.
Vekic, 95th in the world, defeated Chan who is currently ranked 299th in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) ranking, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in a match that lasted almost two hours.
"I feel Chan played very good tennis today. I just did not know what to do in the first game, she did not show any weaknesses.
"But then I caught up with her in the second set, the rain gave me some time to calm down and analyze her moves. The good thing was I managed to improve my game after the rain," she told reporters after the match.
Vekic will meet Kristyna Pliskova in the second round after she (Kristyna) beat Timea Babos 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 in the first round at the Royal Selangor Golf Club (RGSC).....
