ALOR SETAR, April 14 (Bernama) -- Rising Malaysian junior pair, Ameer Amri Zainuddin/Ooi Zi Heng defeated their opponents from Russia in the second round at the 2014 World Junior Badminton Championships at Stadium Sultan Abdul Halim here, Monday.
The new pair who were matched together just about four months ago, were stretched to a three setter before prevailing over Sergey Molodov/ Vladislav Soloviev in 21-15, 18-21, 21-19.
Ameer Amri/Zi Heng will next have to overcome Ben Lane/Sean Vendy from England in the third round before they can get through to the quarter-finals.
According to national men's doubles coach Chin Tze Seong, what was achieved by Malaysia's three doubles pairs Monday was the best performance in getting past the first two rounds, especially for Ameer Amri/Ooi.
"For Ameer and Ooi, they are just 16 years old and this is their debut at the World Junior Championships. And today's success will spur them to go further.....
