MAKAF To Send 20 Back Up Squad Exponents To Vietnam

KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Amateur Karate Federation (MAKAF) will be sending 20 back up squad athletes to the 2014 South East Asia Karate Championships in Can Tho, Vietnam from April 16.

MAKAF assistant secretary-general, Osman Abdullah said the decision to send a team of back up squad athletes was to give the young exponents exposure and experience at international competitions.

"But although we are sending back up squad exponents, I am optimistic that they will be able to bring back a medal or two because the performance of our exponents is currently at the optimum level," he told Bernama here Sunday.

Osman said the exponents have been undergoing training under coach Andris Vasiljevs at the National Sports Complex.

Malaysian exponents who emerged victorious in the same championships that was held in the Philippines last year with 11 gold, eight silver and three bronze medals, will be competing in 35 of the 40 categories contested.....
