Chong Wei Strolls Into Singapore Open Quarter-finals

KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 (Bernama) -- World number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei eased his way into the quarterfinals of the Singapore Open Super Series Championships with an easy win over Chinese youngster Chen Yuekun.

The world number one wasted no time in packing off Chen Yuekun 21-11, 21-6 in just 30 minutes but will next face Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand who struggled to beat Hong Kong's Wong Wing Ki, 21-14, 18-21, 21-14.

Also moving into the quarter-finals were national men's doubles pair of Hoon Thien How/Tan Wee Kiong who overpowered Thai pair Maneepong Jongjit/Nipitphon Puangpuapech, 21-17, 21-18.

Hoon and Tan are scheduled to meet Lee Sheng Mu/Tsai Chia Hsin of Taiwan who subdued New Zealanders Kevin Dennerly Minturn/Oliver Leydon-Davis, 21-12, 21-15 in their match.

Unfortunately, top national mixed doubles pair of Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying who were seeded fourth, suffered a shock defeat to unseeded Chinese pair Liu Cheng/Bao Yixin, 17-21, 21-12, 12-21.....
