Last update: 09/04/2014

KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 (Bernama) -- The Philippines and South Korea shared top spot after carding identical one-under-par 143 scores in the overall team category when the first round of the 36th Queen Sirikit Cup Malaysia 2014 ended at the Saujana Golf and Country Club in Subang, here today.

It was a double joy for the Philippines as Clare Amelia Legaspi, 16, from Manila fired a three-under 69 to top the individual contest and her combined score with team mate Princess Mary Superal (74) gave them the lead.

Regional powerhouse South Korea underlined their firm intention to clinch a record 16th crown, with Lee So-young and Gyeol Park carding one-under 71 and even-par 72 scores respectively to deny the Philippines an outright lead.

China and Japan are third with 145, while defending champion Australia and India are tied fifth on 147.

The best two gross scores contribute to the team's daily score with the team returning the lowest gross score at the end of the 54-hole tournament walking away with the 36th Queen Sirikit Cup.....
