IPOH, March 22 (Bernama) -- Malaysia fell to 2-6 defeat to defending champions Australia in their final group match of the 23rd Sultan Azlan Shah Cup hockey tournament, here Saturday night.

Despite the defeat, national hockey coach Muhammad Dhaarma Raj Abdullah was happy that his team managed to score two goals against a top team.

"The boys played well. We did not go down there to play a cowardly game and did not think whether we were in the final or not," he said.

Australia dominated the first half with some good attacking play but the Malaysian defence line held on with their tight marking.

However, it all changed in 16th minute when Australia forced a penalty corner and their specialist, Nicholas Budgeon flicked into the Malaysian goal to open scoring.....
