IPOH, March 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysia overcame a jittery first half to overcome Canada 3-1 and keep their final hopes alive in the 23rd Sultan Azlan Shah Cup hockey tournament at the Azlan Shah Hockey Stadium tonight, here tonight.
The Canadians, fully utilised their physical advantage and threw the Malaysian players off guard at times, forcing Malaysia to dig deep into their reserves to carve out a much needed victory.
"We knew coming into the match that it is not going to be easy. We knew they would intimidate our players with their physical game and fight for every ball," said Malaysian coach Muhammad Dhaarma Raj Abdullah.
The win was Malaysia's second in three matches while the other was a 2-2 draw against South Korea.
Malaysia took the lead when Faizal Saari slammed the ball past Canadian goalkeeper David Carter, after receiving a splendid pass from Muhammad Marhan Mohd Jalil, who had earlier weaved his way past two Canadian defenders.....
