Haze Affecting Sports Activities - MAU President

KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 (Bernama) -- The unhealthy air quality in the Klang Valley is playing havoc on several sports training programmes and championships which have to be postponed until air quality returns to healthy level.

Malaysian Athletics Union (MAU) president Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad said following the worsening haze, athletes could not carry out training at the National Sports Council mini-stadium until the situation improved.

"We do not allow athletes to undergo training on the track as the haze is getting worse and some of them have breathing difficulties after a strenuous session.

"The athletes are now training inside the gymnasium. Currently, several local championships have also been cancelled," said Zainal.

Meanwhile, Johor cycling squad coach Mohd Firdaus Daud said he was quite disappointed as the National Youth Track Cycling Championship had to be postponed as a result of the bad haze in Cheras.....
