KUALA KANGSAR, March 2 (Bernama) -- Scots College of New Zealand (SCNZ) beat Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman (STAR) Ipoh at the fourth MCKK Premier 7s Rugby Tournament 2014 to grab the NJ Ryan Cup in the final match, here, Sunday evening.

In the 7-aside match at the MCKK field here, SCNZ, which made four tries, won 36-14.

The match was watched by the Raja Dihilir Perak Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa, Raja Puan Muda Perak Raja Nor Mahani Raja Shahar Shah, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Malay College Old Boys Association president Tan Sri Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas.

SCNZ coach, Earl Va'a said the tournament was the first championship for the team in Malaysia and, for most of them, it was also their first visit here.

"I think for us, rugby is secondary. The first goal to come here is to make sure the boys make a lot of friends from among the Malaysian community and the Asian teams like Hong Kong and Singapore. That is the main thing for us," he said after the tournament.....
