KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 (Bernama) -- Italy's Andrea Guardini of Astana Pro Team powered himself to clinch the third stage of the 2014 Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) despite injury after being involved in an accident Friday.
The 24-year-old, sprinting to the team's first victory of the 2014 season, clocked three hours, 40 minutes and 38 seconds in the 166.5km race from Kampar, Perak to Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur.
Guardini, shrugged off a keen challenge from second stage winner, Holland's Theo Bos of Belkin-Pro Cycling Team while Frenchman Yannick Martinez of Team Europcar finished in third place.
The victory today brings his career total at the LTdL race to 13 stage wins, thus holding the record as the most stage winning rider in the history of this prestigious race.
"My teammate, Ruslan (Tleubayev) has done a good job and helped me with 10 to 15 kilometres to go and he managed to lead me out for a good position to sprint at the last 400 metres.....
