KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 (Bernama) -- National number two women's squash player Low Wee Wern survived an early scare before advancing to the quarter-finals of the 2014 Windy City Open in Ohio, the United States.
In the opening round held at the University Club of Chicago early today, Wee Wern encountered a tough fight from India's rising star Dipika Pallikal before emerging victorious in 11-5, 8-11, 11-7, 12-14 and 11-6 in the 80-minute match.
The 23-year old Penangite however has an uphill task in the last eight later today as she would be battling against second seed and world number three, Raneem El Weleily of Egypt, according to the tournament's website www.squashsite.co.uk.
Raneem made it to the quarter-finals after earning a hard-fought 12-14, 9-11, 11-3, 11-4 and 11-7 win over England qualifier, Sarah Kippax in another first round encounter.
Malaysia do not have any representatives in the quarter-finals of the men's category after Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan lost to world number five and fifth seed James Willstrop of England in the opening round, early Friday.....
