GEORGE TOWN, Feb 18 (Bernama) -- A father's hard work, sacrifice and perseverance paid early dividends when his son S. Saktyasarma, 10, was crowned Penang's "Best Bakat Athlete Of The Year" in the men's category.

S. Sathiya Kumar, 39, who doubled up as his son's coach, had started training his son in taekwondo since the age of four but his son, Saktyasarma, had only started taking part in competitions last year.

However, within a short span, the talented Saktyasarma, a Year Four student at Sekolah Kebangsaan St Mark Perai, Butterworth, managed to win a number of titles, including a gold medal at the 2013 North Zone Taekwondo Championships and 2013 Penang Closed Taekwondo Championships.

"I started training under my father since the age of four but only entered competitions last year," he told reporters after receiving the award at the state level taekwondo awards, here, last night.

Saktyasarma said his love for taekwondo deepened as he was always being encouraged and inspired by his father who happens to be a taekwondo exponent.....
