TAWAU, Feb 16 (Bernama) -- Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan wants Sabah to finish among the top five teams in any major competitions in the country.
Tawfiq said since the facilities available in Sabah, especially sports complex facilities are better than many other states, it should inspire athletes in the state to excel and match the top five target.
"We want athletes to try and achieve their best results when competing in any type of competition and make the state proud," he told reporters at the flag handing ceremony for the 2014 Mamee Trophy and sports equipment for the state football academy (TFA) at the Sports Complex, here today.
Meanwhile, he praised the Tawau zone Sabah Football Association (SAFA) for its proactive steps to identify talented young players.
"We (ministry) will assist in setting up infrastructure and facilities, so it is important to engage in programme to identify talent at the grassroots level early.....
