SHAH ALAM, Feb 15 (Bernama) -- National junior silat exponent Mohd Khaizul Yaacob is eyeing for a gold medal at the 2014 World Silat Championships in Palembang, Indonesia in June.

Mohd Khaizul who is a human resource student at Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) has booked a berth to the world tournament in the class I (85-90kg category) at the 2013 Prime Minister's Cup in 17th National Silat Championship in Kuala Terengganu.

"I will be starting training with the national elite squad camp on March 1 with two coaches as I was earlier placed in class F (70-75kg) which is quite different with my current class in terms of speed and power," he told reporters.

Mohd Khaizul, 24, won the gold medal in class I at the second Malaysian Institution of Higher Learning Games (SUKIPT) by defeating Mohd Syafirul Aliff Mohd Suri of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) while Fizree Akmal Abd Nasir (UiTM) and Amir Syahmi Shamsudin of Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM) shared the bronze medal.
