UPM Protests UiTM Used Five Indonesian Swimmers

SHAH ALAM, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) winning more that 18 gold medals in swimming at the Malaysian Insitutions of Higher Learning Games SUKIPT) 2014 has been protested by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

UPM had protested that UiTM used five Indonesian swimmers in their team.

Commenting on the matter, Education Ministry Sports Division chief secretary Hazally Jali said SUKIPT was more concerned about the strength of each institution and that who represented the university was secondary.

"This (using foreign students) is nothing new. Technically this is allowed, it is not wrong because they are enrolled with the universities they are representing.

"Even if they come for just a semester, for example just six months, they are still considered students of the particular institution. Nevertheless, this is something that needs to be relooked where future editions of the Games are concerned," he told reporters at the Darul Ehsan Aquatics Centre here, the venue for the aquatic events, today.....
