KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- Former 1997 champion, Lee Westwood of England has confirmed his participation in the 2014 Maybank Malaysian Open Golf championship scheduled to tee-off at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) here from April 17 to 20.
Maybank chairman Tan Sri Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor said the participation of the former world number one golfer was definitely a major boost for the tournament.
"Westwood's presence, like many other top players we've had in the past, will not only draw the crowd but also strengthen Malaysia's standing in the global golfing map.
"Given the growing interest and spectator numbers at the Maybank Malaysian Open, we intend to continue inspiring our local fans and golfers with the opportunity to see the world's best on our greens, and in the process, raise the standard of golf in Malaysia," Megat Zaharuddin said in a statement today.
Sharing Megat Zaharuddin's views was Malaysian Golf Association president Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor, who regarded Westwood as a seasoned professional who had won countless titles all over the world and in Malaysia as well.....
