PETALING JAYA, Feb 11 (Bernama) -- The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has set a modest target of reaching the second round of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal championship in Vietnam from April 30 to May 10.
FAM secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said though the national futsal squad under Maizal Hairi Marzuki had failed to win any medals at the Myanmar SEA Games last year, he was confident that the team would be able to pull off a surprise or two in the championship.
"As part of preparations for the championship, the men's futsal team will play a number of friendly matches with clubs from Thailand, next month. We have yet to receive any news about women's futsal for this year," he told reporters after announcing the 2014 Felda-FAM Futsal Tournament at Wisma FAM, Kelana Jaya, here, today.
Hamidin said the governing body for football in the country has also plans to send the same team to undergo training in Iran as part of preparations for the 2014 Asean Football Federation (AFF) Futsal Championship scheduled at the Malawati Stadium, Shah Alam in September.
Meanwhile, the five-day 2014 Felda-FAM Futsal championship that kicks off at the Malawati Stadium, Shah Alam tomorrow will feature the top 16 teams from the 2013 National Futsal League which ended recently.....
