KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- Harith Ammar Mohd Sobri from Universiti Malaya (UM) and Chiew Hui Lian from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) were crowned Sprint King and Queen of the Sukan Institusi Pengajian Tinggi (SUKIPT) 2014 at Univeristi Malaya's Arena Stadium, here Thursday.

Harith Ammar won the men's Blue Ribbon event by clocking 10.97s to win the 100m title while Chiew, 21, came back from a four-month injury lay off to sweep the women's 100m title with a time of 12.63s, en route to setting a new championship record.

The silver medal in the men's 100m was won by Universiti Teknologi Mara's sprinter Mohamad Afif Zulhusmi Alet with a time of 11.04s while Mohd Shahmimi Azmi from UniMAP was third with a time of 11.17s.

Chiew's 12.63s erased the old record of 12.74s set by Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) sprinter Norjannah Hafiszah Jamaludin in the 2012 SUKIPT.

"Though my time today was well below my personal best time of 12.00s, I am satisfied with the result. I hope to set a better time in the Majlis Sukan Universiti Malaysia (MASUM) games and SUKMA in Perlis and qualify for the Asean University Games (AUG)," she said.....
