KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- After being saddled with a controversy over failure to win a gold medal at the Myanmar SEA Games in December, the national road race squad will be taking part in the Ronda Pilipinas 2014 in Quezon City Memorial Circle, Philippines from Feb 1 to 16.
The Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF), in a statement today, said the participation would serve as a preparation for the Le Tour de Langkawi 2014 (LTdL 2014) from Feb 27 to March 8.
The Philippines-bound cyclists are Muhammad Rauf Nur Misbah, Suhardi Hassan, Mohd Nor Rizuan Zainal, Nik Mohd Azwan Zulkiflie, Mohd Ekbar Zamanhuri and Amirul Anuar Jafri for the 14-stage championship over 1,776 km in the mountainous region of Baguio.
MNCF president Datuk Abu Samah Abd Wahab said Ronda Pilipinas 2014 would enable the federation to gauge the strength of blending experienced and young riders for LTdL 2014 challenge.
"Even though we are still smarting from the 2013 SEA Games debacle, we have to continue to nurture the road race squad," he said.....
