Nicol Edges Closer To Clinching Maiden Title This Year

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 24 (Bernama) -- Malaysian squash queen and world number one player, Datuk Nicol Ann David is just a step closer to clinching her maiden title this year after marching into the final of the 2014 Tournament of Champions (ToC) in New York.

In the semi-final match held at the Grand Central Terminal early today, the 30-year old Penangite did not have much trouble defeating fourth seed, Alison Waters of England.

She beat the Englishwoman in 11-8, 11-8 and 12-10 in 46 minutes.

Nicol, who had earlier beaten compatriot Low Wee Wern in the quarter-finals on Thursday, will take on Alison's compatriot, Laura Massaro in the final.

Laura, the world number two and second seed cruised to the final after earning a hard fought 11-5, 3-11, 11-6 and 11-9 win against fifth seed, Camille Serme of France in the other semi-final encounter which lasted 62 minutes.....
