KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's hope of winning the men's category of the 2014 Tournament of Champions (ToC), held in New York, United States, was dashed today with the elimination of two national players.
Season campaigners, Ong Beng Hee, however put up a spirited fight before losing 7-11, 11-6, 7-11 and 5-11 to South African, Steve Coppinger, in the 63-minute match held at the Grand Central Terminal, according to the tournament website, www.squashsite.co.uk.
Coppinger, however, will face an uphill task in the second round later today as he will take on defending champion and world number one, Nick Matthew of England who beat his compatriot, Adrian Grant;11-4, 11-5 and 11-4.
Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan who came through the qualifying round also lost 2-11, 6-11 and 2-11 against Cameron Pilley of Australia in just 32 minutes.
Pilley will be playing against another Englishman, James Willstrop, in the next round after the world number five player defeated Nicolas Mueller of Switzerland;7-11, 11-1, 12-10 and 11-5.....
