PUTRAJAYA, Jan 9 (Bernama) -- Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin wants to meet Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) president Datuk Abu Samah Abdul Wahab to seek clarification over a decision made by the MNCF Exco in Melaka, yesterday.
"I have only read Datuk Abu Samah Abdul Wahab's statement and will meet him to seek further clarification," he said.
Asked about MNCF's rationale to not seek the National Sports Council's (NSC) assistance, Khairy said "I have no idea."
Yesterday, the MNCF had turned down the NSC's approach to cooperate with the federation to jointly manage the training programme of road racing cyclists as requested by Khairy.
Abu Samah had said that the federation would continue to shoulder the full responsibility of managing cyclists involved in road racing and ready to take full responsibility for their failure. "For the time being we have to respect and accept their decision...we have offered our assistance, not to manage the programme jointly...do not want anyone to misconstrue that we want to take over the management. The federation will have its role to play," he said.
Khairy said though MNCF would like to continue their programmes on their own, they (MNCF) must ensure that the Key Performance Index (KPI) matched the funds given by the government.....
