PETALING JAYA, Jan 3 (Bernama) -- The most iconic symbol of football, the FIFA World Cup trophy, arrived in Malaysia today as part of its nine month journey to 88 countries.
The coveted trophy which started its 149,576.78km tour from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Sept 12 last year, arrived at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang on a special chartered flight accompanied by FIFA ambassador and former Manchester United striker, Dwight Yorke and The Coca-Cola Company's Global Football Manager, Annamaria Gazda.
The flight came from Hanoi, Vietnam and Malaysia is the 56th stopover on the trophy's long journey before heading to Jakarta, Indonesia on Monday.
The authentic World Cup trophy, which is 36.8cm high and weighs 6.18kg is made of solid 18-carat gold with a base made from two layers of semi-precious malachite.
It will be put on display for public viewing at Dewan Tun Hussien Onn Hall 1 of the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), here, from 10am to 10pm, this Sunday.....
