National Silat Athlete Hurt In Semi-final Match

NAYPYITAW (Myanmar), Dec 12 (Bernama) -- A Malaysian silat athlete was rushed to the hospital after he was injured in a match against Thai athlete Nanthachai Khanson in the Putera Class B event at the Zayer Thiri Closed Stadium near here Thursday.

Muhamad Helmi Aziz, who competed in pain, was beaten 5-0 at the semi-final match and could not continue to the final which is scheduled at the same venue tomorrow.

Malaysia's silat team manager at the 27th SEA Games, Datuk Md Sohaimi Mohamed said Muhamad Helmi was sent to the hospital to undergo further examination.

"We do not know the extent of the injury and we pray he is not seriously hurt," he told reporters here.

He said the national silat athlete was injured by a strong kick delivered by his opponent in the third round, and was thus, unable to complete the match.....
