PUTRAJAYA, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has described the absence of the 2013 SEA Games Chef-de-Mission (CDM), Datuk Amiruddin Embi, when Malaysia won its 1,000th gold medal two days ago as only a small matter compared to the achievement of the national contingent.
He said what was important was the comprehensive preparations by Amiruddin before the Games apart from the efforts by the athletes themselves.
"This is a small matter, do not play up the issue and what is important is that he is present at the Games opening tomorrow and I will also be there," he said when asked to comment on Amiruddin's absence at the Games even though it began on Saturday with Malaysia already having collected several gold medals.
Khairy was speaking at a press conference after witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) and the Malaysian Islamic Missionary Foundation (Yadim) at the ministry here Tuesday.
According to news reports, Amiruddin as the Chef de Mission should have been present early at the SEA Games as many athletes were already at Naypyitaw, the main venue of the Games.....
