Last update: 12/07/2018

KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 (Bernama) -- Cameron Highlands MP Datuk C. Sivarraajh has applied to strike out an election petition filed by PKR candidate M. Manogaran to nullify the 14th General Election (GE14) result for that parliamentary seat.

Counsel Nik Alia Hanafi, who represented Sivarraajh, told reporters that her client filed the application to strike out the petition today, and July 19 was fixed for further case management.

"The court also fixed Sept 3 to 20 for the hearing of the election petition," she said after the case management before High Court Judge Datuk Azizah Nawawi in chambers in the presence of Monogaran's counsel M. Rajendrakumar..

On June 4, Managoran, 59, as petitioner, filed a petition seeking a declaration that the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat in GE14 null and void as it violated the Election Offences Act 1954 because the respondent (Sivarraajh) had allegedly bribed voters from the Orang Asli community to vote for him.

Manogaran also claimed that Sivarraajh who was campaigning with Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Jelai assemblyman who is now Pahang Menteri Besar, had bribed the Orang Asli voters between RM30 to RM1,000 through several Tok Batins (community chief) to ensure they voted for the BN in the five-cornered fight.....
